COCTEAU Jean [Maisons-Laffitte, 1889 - Milly-la-Forêt, 1963] - Lot 117
COCTEAU Jean [Maisons-Laffitte, 1889 - Milly-la-Forêt, 1963], French poet and writer. Autograph manuscript signed. "La Tristesse d'Olympio"; 5 in-4° pages with corrections. Cocteau writes about the city of Toulon. "Here I am again, living in this Toulon populated by ghosts and which I cannot see again without adding to its charms the wonderful uneasiness of memory [...] The yacht of a dead friend sways outside my window. Dead my monkey who scandalized the Café de la Rade. Dead my room-mate when I caught typhoid... Dead the city that Daguerche tells us about in Consolata, dead the one I knew afterwards, dead the one I walk through and that Faron - the hill - insensitively watches over like an Acropolis."
