NAPOLÉON I (Napoléon Bonaparte) [Ajaccio, 1769 - Île de Sain - Lot 61
NAPOLÉON I (Napoléon Bonaparte) [Ajaccio, 1769 - Île de Sainte-Hélène, 1821], Emperor of the French. Instruction pour les Gardes Nationales, adopted by the Military Committee and printed by order of the National Assembly. 1791; in-12°. Signed "Buonaparte officier" on title page with autograph addition "Chez Boué". Non-period binding, some traces of wetness. Numeral annotations on one page probably in Napoleon's hand. On September 12 or 13, 1792, on his way to Corsica, Napoleon, then an officer, stopped with his sister Elisa in Valence at Madame Boué's, who rented him a room. Books from this period are extremely rare, as many were burned when the Louvre library was destroyed by fire in 1871 during the Paris Commune.
