Attributed to Giovanni Angelo del MAINO - Lot 4
Attributed to Giovanni Angelo del MAINO (Active between 1496 and 1536) Study of a Warrior with a Sword Study of a Warrior with a Shield Pair of drawings, pen and brown ink Brown wash 29 x 18 cm Numbered at the top The sculptor Angelo del Maino worked primarily in Pavia. He had begun his career with his brother in their father’s workshop in Milan as a master cabinetmaker. They worked mainly on liturgical furnishings and objects intended for churches. Angelo del Maino, however, revitalized the genre by introducing a softer style, reminiscent of marble sculpture and Roman influence. The Louvre holds eighteen drawings attributed to Angelo del Maino (INV 6359 to INV 5371). We can relate our pair of drawings to these various figures, dated around 1520.
