In-8, (8) ff, 500 pp, 12 unsigned h. t. figs, bottom of title redone, carmine Russian leather, gilt thread framing on boards with fleuron at corners, ribbed spine, int. dent, gilt tr. GAY III, 1076. ''Very interesting satires on the mores of the time. V. Bulletin du bibliophile, 1857, pp. 515-527.'' COHEN 939. ''Many ex. have the bottom of the title cut off, because the book having been seized, the bookseller's name was made to disappear in order to sell those that had been concealed.'' The author, who had tried to deceive the censor by presenting a watered-down text, was sent to the Bastille.
