Paris, Pierre David, 1632. Pet. in-8, (16) ff, 259 pp, paper a little yellowed, 18th c. marbled fawn calf, ornate ribbed spine, supralibros on first board. Second edition. Among the introductory pieces are two poems by Du Ryer, a friend of the author, and one in Latin, possibly by Benserade. One of the theater adaptations from Urfé's novel, along with those by Jean Mairet (e.g., La Silvanire, 1631). Rayssiguier chose to stage the work's two main themes: the story of Astrée and Céladon, and that of Diane and Silvandre. Rayssiguier, who is presumed to be an originalre from Castres, a town not far from his model's Forez region, was a close friend of Cardinal de Retz. (V. Lancaster I, 346). Ex-libris and supralibros of Frédéric Lachèvre.
