CHOISY, François Timoléon, Abbé de - Mémoires pour servir à l'histoire de Louis XIV. (à la sphère). Utrecht, Wan-de-Vater, 1727. In-12, (1) f., 515 pp. slightly yellowed paper, brown granite calf, spine ribbed and decorated. SHF 832. Memoirs published by D. Fr. Camusat. They are composed of a series of disjointed fragments, dating from different periods and covering the period from Mazarin's death to 1686. He reports curious facts gleaned from conversations with courtiers. He remained close to Turenne and Condé, Pomponne and Croissy, and relies on Dangeau's as yet unpublished diary. By questioning what he irreverently calls the "old repertoires", he has composed these memoirs, filled with gossip, anecdotes and bon mots expressed with lightness and wit.
