LORME, Thomas de - La Muse nouvelle, ou les agréables divert - Lot 288
LORME, Thomas de - La Muse nouvelle, ou les agréables divertissements du Parnasse. Lyon, Charles Mathevet, 1665. Pet. in-12, portrait, frontispiece, (12) ff, 269 pp, (8) ff, folding morocco, ribbed spine, int. dent, gilt tr. (BELLEVALLÉE). VIOLLET-LE-DUC 522. ROCHAS (Biog. du Dauphiné) I, 310. LACHÈVRE IV, 146. First edition of the author's only poetic essay. Thomas de Lorme (La Côte Saint André circa 1642- Grenoble 1724), from a family of skilled physicians and apothecaries, studied at the Collège de Vienne around 1657. His teacher was Father Ménestrier, and he was encouraged by Boissat in his poetic career. His early verses, most of which were written at the college, are not lacking in grace. He begins with a portrait of himself, followed by satires and gallant pieces. Two of these poems are dedicated to Nicolas Chorier and Boissat. He was a friend of Le Pays, author of the famous Amitiés, amours et amourettes (Grenoble, 1664). De Lorme later became a lawyer at the Grenoble Parliament.
