Portière au bouquet de fleurs - Lot 265
Portière au bouquet de fleurs
Tapestry probably by Manufacture des Gobelins
18th century, Louis XVI period
Woven in wool and silk
H. 270 x W. 155 cm
This fine tapestry features a marble-columned niche in the center, topped by a garland of flowers, housing a majestic bouquet set in a refined vase decorated with acanthus leaves ending in foliage. All around, a blue background with rosebushes in spandrels, and fine vertical decoration combining goldsmith's work, precious stones and flowering branches, ending with heavy sprays of country flowers. Imitation-frame border with pearl fillets, friezes of flower vases on a red background, and spandrels with fleurons on a cream background.
The tapestry retains its beautiful, vivid colors.
It is in good condition, with some wear.
