Theater, Europe, early 18th century Broken-type fan in pierced, carved, engraved and painted ivory decorated with actors performing on a theater stage. The simulated throat is decorated with characters in the Chinese style. Pierrot on the left plays guitar. The sculpted plumes of a lover holding a flying heart with a ribbon. The head is adorned with a fine tortoiseshell plate. The reverse side is painted with a transparent line of the decoration on the face.
