Turin, Reale Corpo di Stato Maggiore, 1852-1867. 4 cases, gr. in-8, 91 cloth-covered leaves 76 X 58 cm, slightly defr., qqs. hinges split, one case side missing. Scale 1/50,000. Known as the Carte de l'état-major général or Carte de Sardaigne, this is a fundamental cartographic document of the post-Napoleonic era. The result of intense surveying and topographic work carried out throughout Piedmont between 1816 and 1830 by the newly-formed Corps royal d'état-major général, subsequent revisions and developments of the map eventually led to the publication, between 1852 and 1867, of the new version of the Carte topographique des Etats continentaux de S.M. le roi de Sardaigne. Distributed in France by ''Librairie militaire de J. Dumaine. Cartes du dépôt de la guerre et du dépôt des fortifications.'' Label affixed to the back of each map.
