TRUFFAUT François [Paris, 1932 - Neuilly-sur-Seine, 1984], F - Lot 109
TRUFFAUT François [Paris, 1932 - Neuilly-sur-Seine, 1984], French filmmaker.
Autograph letter signed, addressed to Robert [Lachenais], screenwriter and director close to the filmmaker. January 13, 1982; 2 pages in-4°. Insolate second page.
Conflicting letter to his long-time friend about working relationships in the film industry.
"20 years ago you wouldn't have sent me a letter without a final formula of friendship or a token of camaraderie. Relations between journalists and directors are difficult, between directors they are often stilted, between working directors and directors-journalists they become impossible. [one Sunday evening, I hear you on "Le Masque et la plume" talking about me as an over-rated director, especially in America, and today you ask me to take part in a program in the name of my reputation there. I know you're not a cynic, and your devotion to Jerry Lewis is more than respectable. In their time, I would have done anything for Renoir or Hitchcock. It's just that while I almost laughingly accept the piques.... and perfidies of a Mar...elles for example, coming from you they hurt. So address yourself to others.
