Set of 4 autograph letters signed, addressed to Alfred Cortot. - April 4, 1917; 2 pages in-12°. "Gabriel Moncey has informed me of the failure of the GQG to accept my request for a mission as a painter in the armies. I am very sorry. I have no doubt that you did everything possible to obtain the result we wanted, and I am afraid that the new approaches will not be any more successful. Would you be so kind as to let me know the fate of the three paintings I entrusted to you last month? - April 14, 1917; 2 pages in-12°. "I am sorry that your attempt was unsuccessful, but I agree with you that we will be happier another time. I had the good fortune to meet de Pierrefeu here, who assured me that my name was not on the list sent by the Ministry to the GQG. There would be no obstruction if my name were on a forthcoming list. but to enable him to act at the Ministry it would be necessary for you to be able to give me the indication of the office which deals with this question." - May 20, 1917; 1 1/2 pages in-12°. "I have been informed by M. Rosenberg that we forgot to give him, along with the three canvases I entrusted to you, the frame that started one of them. I would be grateful if you could have it looked for and let me know when I can have it removed". - June 5, 1917; 2 1/2 pages in-12°. "I thank you very much for your persistence in taking care of this matter of a mission to Macedonia, Unfortunately, I don't know what evil genius (?) is toppling the whole edifice that has been painstakingly built. It is certain that my name does not appear on the list approved by the GQG. The obstruction comes from the Ministry". - WATERCOLORS AND ENGRAVINGS A very nice set of : - 4 unsigned watercolors.
