MALLET DU PAN Jacques [, 1749 -, 1800], Paris-based Swiss po - Lot 46
MALLET DU PAN Jacques [, 1749 -, 1800], Paris-based Swiss political journalist and royalist agent. Autograph letter signed. Paris, December 13, 1787; 1 page in-4°. "The first folio volume of the Tableau de l'Empire Ottoman, is at your orders, sir, I beg you to receive it for our public library, and to inform me by what means I should dispatch it to you. [...] This work, I believe, will not appear to you inferior to the idea I have given you; but very few people in Paris will be curious about this Mohammedan legislation; our travelers - writers, our de Jott, our Volney and other novelists, would much rather repeat until the end of the centuries, that the Corr'ann makes all the law of the Muslims." He explains that the second volume is almost finished, and if the engravers don't fall behind schedule, it will appear in May and June 1788.
