[LYAUTEY Louis Hubert Gonzalve [Nancy, 1854 - Thorey, 1934], - Lot 45
[LYAUTEY Louis Hubert Gonzalve [Nancy, 1854 - Thorey, 1934], Marshal of France - SUAREZ Georges [1890 - 1944], novelist and critic]. Autograph manuscript signed, entitled "Un discours inédit du maréchal Lyautey". 12 pages in-4°. "A few years ago, at the end of a lunch given by M. Paul Reynaud at the Ministry of Finance, Marshal Lyautey took me aside and did me the honor of speaking sympathetically about a book I had just published on parliamentary mores. If I had known," he said, "that you were preparing this book, I would have sent you the text of the speech I was to have given to the Chamber on March 14, 1917. No one ever knew what I wanted to say, not even Briand, who had asked me to give the Chamber only a few purely technical details. From the very first words, I was stopped by the violence of the interruptions. The same day, I handed in my resignation as Minister of War. I left for Morocco a few weeks later, and never again had the opportunity to tell members of parliament what I thought of them and their way of working." Enclosed: LYAUTEY Louis Hubert Gonzalve [Nancy, 1854 - Thorey, 1934], Marshal of France. Signed letter. Paris, December 2, 1927; 1 page in-4°. Engraved letterhead "Le Maréchal Lyautey". "I have received your letter of November 29 and will be delighted to visit the Moroccan Ceramics Exhibition. He wishes to know how long the exhibition will last.
