Nicolas CHAPERON (Châteaudun 1612-Lyon circa 1655) Winter and Time Canvas. 46 x 27 cm Trained in Paris in Simon Vouet's studio, Nicolas Chaperon (1612-1653/1654) was part of the French classicist tradition, influenced by François Perrier and Nicolas Poussin. His work L'Hiver et le Temps (Winter and Time) illustrates an allegory in which a winged old man, Chronos, symbolizing Time, flies over a half-naked man draped in red, embodying Winter, in an icy, twilight landscape.
