19th century FRENCH SCHOOL - Lot 135
19th century FRENCH SCHOOL Portrait of General JOUBERT Oval canvas. 65 x 56 cm A label on the reverse Musée des Arts décoratifs/ Exposition 1935 / Général Blaise. Accident. General Barthelemy JOUBERT, a key figure in the Italian campaigns of the French Revolution and Empire, embodied the boldness and determination of the military men of his time. He entered the army as a young man, inspired by revolutionary ideals. His meteoric rise through the military ranks was due to his courage on the battlefield and his mastery of strategic maneuvers. Under the command of General Bonaparte, JOUBERT distinguished himself particularly during the Italian campaigns (1796-1797), in which the French Republic fought against the allied European powers. He played a decisive role in a number of battles, including the clashes at Rivoli and Arcole. Like many of his contemporaries, General JOUBERT contributed to the transformation of military art.
