FLEMISH SCHOOL circa 1540 entourage of
Simon de CHÂLONS
Christ with reed
Oak panel, one board, not parqueted.
38 x 29 cm
Provenance
Collection of Madame Veuve Gouffré, (according to a label on the reverse).
To be compared with the painting by Simon de Châlons, signed and dated 1543, in the Borghese Gallery, see C.Larraz, Simon de Châlons
de Châlons, Milan, 2022, fig. 74.
Two paintings very similar to ours are known:
- one appeared at Christie's London sale December 9, 2015, n°103, reproduced ;
- the other is in the Musée Garinet in Chalons en Champagne (see C.Larraz, Simon de Châlons, Milan, 2022, reproduced fig. 76 ).
These paintings seem to derive from a lost original by Andrea Solario.
