Guidette CARBONELL (1910 - 2008) & MANUFACTURE NATIONALE DE SEVRES
"Lion", model created in 1938. Stoneware bas-relief with brown, bluish-green and partially unglazed high-relief decoration.
Manufacturer's stamp in two places.
Height 35.5 cm - Length 28 cm - Depth 10 cm
Provenance: acquired directly from the artist in Meudon by the current owner. She told the current owner that only five stoneware proofs had been made of this model.
History: in 1938, the Manufacture nationale de Sèvres invited Guidette Carbonell to produce stoneware models in its workshops. Having never worked with this material before, this short collaboration was the only time she ever used stoneware. This experience produced some fifteen pieces, the majority of which were animal subjects, notably pigeons and lions.
