Roman CIESLEWICZ (Lwów 1930 - Paris 1996) - Lot 111
Roman CIESLEWICZ (Lwów 1930 - Paris 1996)
Inspekcja Pana Anatola (Mr. Anatole's Inspection), 1959.
Canvas poster, signed in the plate. Dimensions: 116 x 84 cm.
Advertising poster created by the young Roman Cieslewicz for CWF (Film Distribution Office), an example of the graphic designer's work in the early stages of his career, when he was working alongside other masters of the famous Polish poster school, such as Henryk Tomaszewski, Jan Lenica, Jan Młodożeniec and Waldemar Świerzy. From this time onwards, Cieslewicz developed an interest in photomontage, a technique still uncommon in this school, which would profoundly influence his aesthetic and subsequent creations.
Artistic context :
Cieslewicz's poster embodies the distinctive qualities of the Polish poster school, characterized by an innovative approach to image and typography, and an expressive use of visual elements. His early use of photomontage reveals a willingness to experiment that would distance him from dominant graphic conventions and influence graphic design in France after his move to Paris.
