Lazar EL LISSITZKY (1890-1941) - Lot 84
Lazar EL LISSITZKY (1890-1941)
Klinom krasnym bei belykh (Beat the Whites with the Red Corner), 1920, reprinted circa 1950.
Lithographic poster, 48 x 58 cm. Uncoated, folded, in very good condition.
This emblematic poster, designed by El Lissitzky in 1920, represents a visual appeal for Red Army victory over anti-Bolshevik forces. Commissioned by the Western Front Commissariat during the Polish-Soviet war, the poster uses geometric forms to embody the supremacist ideology and movement, embodying a strong symbolism of Soviet propaganda. The edition presented here is a reprint from the 1950s.
Edition history :
Several versions of this poster are known, but the exact chronology of their editions remains uncertain. The first printed version may not be the one held today by the Moscow State Library.
