PIAF, Édith (Giovanna Gassion, dite) [Paris, 1915 - id., 196 - Lot 225
PIAF, Édith (Giovanna Gassion, dite) [Paris, 1915 - id., 1963], French singer. Autograph letter signed "Edith" addressed to Paul Meurisse. Château Marmont, Holywood, December 13, 1956, 1 1/2 pages. "I'm answering your letter a little late, but you know as well as I do how long it takes to judge whether a song is for you or not, so, after having looked at it carefully, this song is not for me in the sense that, first of all, it brings me nothing new, and nothing either from the point of view of stage acting, so I'm sending it back to you, perhaps it will make another artist happy." (Enclosed:) 2 telegrams from Edith Piaf to Paul Meurisse. Provenance: Collection of M. Paul MEURISSE.
