GOURAUD Henri Joseph Eugène [Paris, 1867 - id., 1946], Frenc - Lot 117
GOURAUD Henri Joseph Eugène [Paris, 1867 - id., 1946], French general.
Autograph letter signed, addressed to a general. Fort-Lamy, August 7, 1906; 4 pages in-8°. Printed letterhead "Le Lieut-Colonel Gouraud, Cdt le Territoire du Tchad". Lieutenant-Colonel Gouraud recalls his stay and prepares to return to France. "I'm getting ready to return: 1st Colonel Larfeau had to leave France on May 25 to replace me. It was he who handed over the service to me, and as I had followed his path, he will have no trouble following mine [...]. I have no complaints about my stay. Although we are still on the alert here, with the Ouaddaï and the Senoussistes, I can now hope that I will leave the Territory inviolate, more prosperous, with new bids, and that we will, it seems, close the 1909 budget with an appreciable surplus of revenue, all the more appreciable, as the Chad budget has hitherto been mostly in deficit."
