LARREY Dominique Jean, baron [Beaudéan, 1766 - Lyon, 1842], French military surgeon. Autograph letter signed, addressed to his daughter Isaure. Algiers, May 24, 1842. In it, he explains that he and his men must be under a lucky star, for wherever they travel the welcome is most honorable and kind. He speaks of his concern for his wife and asks for news. He also explains that he is "going to see the higher authorities of the army and perhaps also some of the hospitals of this place [...] it is probable that we will have to get back on the road on the 26th or 27th at the latest to inspect the other parts of the army."
