[Empire] - JALRAS, François (1750-1817), general and baron of the Empire. Autograph letter signed, addressed to his wife. Legnago headquarters January 15, 1806; 3 pages in-4 on a bifeuillet on his letterhead as brigadier general (red stain in margin). Serving in the Army of Italy, under Prince Eugène, a few days before the entry of French troops into Venice, General Jalras hopes to obtain a transfer "in order to get out of this ugly hole of Legnano". Wishing his companion to join him, he suggested that she come as far as Brescia or Verona, where he would pick her up. "You could bring our cook Charles, if he's still in Asti, and if he agrees to stay with me, he'll serve you during the journey and be of great use to us here, for without him you'll make a bad meal". He gives him a few instructions concerning his trunks, his papers and a pair of glasses entrusted to a goldsmith. "Now that we have peace, I find it useless and even very expensive to have two households; it's different during the war. So I think you'll make arrangements to come and join me.
