BONNARD Pierre [Fontenay-aux-Roses, 1867 - Le Cannet, 1947], French painter, designer, decorator, photographer, engraver, lithographer and poster artist.
Set of 10 autograph letters signed, addressed to M. Brame and M. Varcy. Le Cannet 1942; in-8°. Bonnard expresses concern
the arrest of a certain Mme V on July 29:
- Mme V was arrested at my home on Friday at 11am. Since then I've had no news of her, and I've tried to intervene as quickly as possible, but to no avail. I suppose she is accused of having Jewish friendships.
- Saturday. I received wood and even coal. So don't bother with the planned cartage in your Citroën.
in your Citroën. I hope to be able to wait for the merchant from Draguignan or Mougins".
The other letters are thank-you notes or requests for appointments.
Enclosed is a small photo of the painter, annotated on the envelope: "Photographie prise par M. Henri Brame pendant l'occupation, devant un tas de bois".
