ARMEL-BEAUFILS Emile-Jean [Rennes, November 26, 1882], Frenc - Lot 84
ARMEL-BEAUFILS Emile-Jean [Rennes, November 26, 1882], French sculptor. Two-page autograph manuscript with drawings of various fishing boats. He describes various ports in Brittany and the use of ships. "St Malo a quinzaine de chalutiers à vapeur de 1000 ts, une dizaine de grands voiliers encore 3 mats goêlettes". "Granville used to fit out boats for deep-sea fishing - Terre Neuve - but no longer does so. The types of boats were the same as in Cancale. ARMEL-BEAUFILS Emile-Jean [Rennes, November 26, 1882], French sculptor. Autograph letter signed with a lovely printed drawing of a sailboat stranded on the sand. St Briac à Paris, July 4, 1936. "Entendu, avec plaisir nous irons vous voir Dimanche 26 vers 17 Heures (car j'ai séance de modèle avant). On the reverse: "In Dinard, I've been asked to sketch a bronze plaque representing the Jean IV in Dinard under the priory (where it holds up well against S, SW and NW winds). I've just read Jean IV in your Brittany (I say your Brittany), and it seems to me that you're in very good odor of sanctity there... you'll talk to me about it again...". ARMEL-BEAUFILS Emile-Jean [Rennes, November 26, 1882], French sculptor. Set of 7 black-and-white postcards, including 5 of statues and 2 of "Terre Neuvier" boats departing from St. Malo. Many are thank-yous with a more personal note. "All our thanks and good thoughts for the delightful evening spent with you and your friends, thanks also before I go for your new study of Cornwall. We are very much looking forward to this reading, but it will have to contend with our memories of "Face au couchant" and your admirable Brest paintings."
