PAGNOL Marcel [Aubagne, 1895 - Paris, 1974], French writer and film-maker. [Le Temps des Secrets]. Autograph manuscripts [1959-1960]; approx. 60 leaves of various sizes, with a few typed passages. Fragments from Le Temps des secrets, 3rd volume of Souvenirs d'enfance, published in 1960 after Le Château de ma mère. Includes the story of his grandparents, with a few typed passages inserted in the manuscript, scenes concerning Isabelle, the narrator's lover, his friend Lili, his brother Paul, the discovery of high school, etc. With a few unpublished variants and crossed-out passages, as well as an introductory text: "This book was to have been entitled 'Les belles amours'. At the last minute, the author changed the title. Firstly, because there are already quite a few works bearing it: songs, poems, novels. Secondly, it seemed to him that 'Le Temps des Secrets' was more appropriate for these stories about a little boy who is beginning not to tell everything at home. [...] And naturally, the first big secret is his love for Isabelle. He morally betrays his family, forgets his friend Lili... Then, as a half-boarder at the lycée, he settles into a new world.
