HUGO Victor [Besançon, 1802 - Paris, 1885], French poet and - Lot 43
HUGO Victor [Besançon, 1802 - Paris, 1885], French poet and writer. Autograph letter signed "Victor Hugo", addressed to Juliette Adam. [Paris], April 25; one page in-8. He thanks her for her lovely letter. "These few pages pay for my book. What a noble and charming spirit you are. As soon that I have a moment, I'll go to boulevard Poissonnière to get Edmond Adam's hearty handshake, and lay at your feet at your feet. The Salon that Juliette Adam, an outspoken republican and feminist, held at 23 boulevard Poissonnière in the Hôtel Montholon, became one of the most important in Paris under the Third Republic, frequented by a host of political, artistic and literary figures, including Victor Hugo on his return from exile.
