MEURISSE Paul [Dunkerque, 1912 - Paris, 1979], French actor. - Lot 220
MEURISSE Paul [Dunkerque, 1912 - Paris, 1979], French actor.
Set of autograph letters, one signed.
- Paris, August 9, 1961 addressed to Yves Montand entitled "Circulaire" signed by the initials; 3 1/2 pages in-4°. "Madame Édith Piaf, in her memoirs (France Dimanche), was kind enough to give a large account of our relations before my mobilization.
Nevertheless, it seems that her memories are faulty when she gives me credit that should probably belong to someone else. In order to avoid similar errors in the future, I suggest that you organize a congress of "former Edith Piaf lovers" (A.A.E.P.), which could be held in the large hall of the Palais de la Mutualité. So that everyone can accurately situate events that are likely to become entangled in our president's mind, even by virtue of the abundance of material."
- Paris, May 24 1961, 1 page 1/3 in-4° addressed to André Malraux. "It is impossible for me to write the words that a comedian should use when addressing his minister. The thing is too unfair and too abominable. Forgive me for simply telling you that my wife and I would like to be able to take your pain on our account if it would ease your pain."
- Addressed to Jean Anouilh, April 24, 1962; 1 page 1/3 in-4°. "I've reworked the role again with great care, and my doubts have become certainties. I'm really not the character, and my interpretation could only do the play a disservice. I'm too eager to get back to the atmosphere of the Hurluberlu rehearsals as quickly as possible, and to do it, not to put off the risk I instinctively sense in the role".
- Addressed to Jean Claude Brialy, May 18, 1971; 2 pages in-12°. About the play "Au ciel de lit": "I'd like to tell you again how remarkable you are for your humor, tenderness and emotion. I love this play and you are marvelous in it. I've told Caroline Cellier that she's a great actress.
- Addressed to the Palais de l'Elysée, January 31, 1965; 1 page in 8°. on small-ruled perforated paper. Letter of thanks for an invitation from General De Gaulle to the reception on February 12, 1965.
