EIFFEL, G. - Conference of Mr. Eiffel on the 300-meter tower given to the Central Society of Professional Work at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commerciales on February 20, 1889. Paris, Paul Dupont, 1889. In-8, 36 pp, 6 plates, 2 of which folded, br. The plates represent the Tower as a whole and different aspects of its construction. When Eiffel decided to promote it, the Tower was nearing completion (March 31, 1889). After a historical account of previous attempts in Great Britain and the United States, he goes on to explain the genesis of his own project. He justifies the choice of the Champ-de-Mars site, describes the Tower and its equipment, and summarizes the most important technical data (foundations and masonry work, stability of the piers, assembly of the metal part, staircases, elevators, etc.).
