VOLTAIRE (François-Marie Arouet, dit) [Paris, 1694 - id., 1778], French writer. Autograph letter signed to Mr. Clément (collector of sizes in Dreux). 1 page in 8° with address on the back. The letter begins with some verses. "I have received, I have tasted your fish and your verses; your enchanting power governed also by various talents And the nymphs of the Eure and those of the Permesse. Nothing is more precious to me than the honor of your memory, sir, and if I told you how much I appreciate it, I would write you volumes, instead of a small letter. Your verses for Madame la Duchesse du maine are worth much more than your gifts, and in the little I have seen of you you have seen, you have seemed to me to be worth even more than your works. The most flattering price that I have ever received ever received from my own is to have known a man like you.
