MONTPENSIER Anne-Marie-Louise d'Orléans, duchess of (known a - Lot 90
MONTPENSIER Anne-Marie-Louise d'Orléans, duchess of (known as La Grande Mademoiselle) [Paris, 1627 - id., 1693], heroine of the Fronde, where she commanded the cannons of the Bastille against the royal troops; she secretly married Lauzun. Autograph letter signed addressed to Cardinal Mazarin. Fontainebleau, September 3, 1658; 3 pages in-4°, address and black wax seal broken. Beautiful and curious letter. She thanks Mazarin for his letter "and for the way in which it pleased him to mound me. I must tell VE that I left as soon as I could to have it remain, persuading myself to receive from S.M. all the good will that I prove to as I have been here for a few days without the Queen showing me anything, I sent for Mr. de Fregus on the advice that just as FRONTENAC and his family had to come here [...] he spoke to the Rayne who told Mr. de Beringan [...] this evening Frontenac arrived here and I even found him I found him teste for teste having come back from the walk of the Raine so that his coming destroyed the rumor that had been the rumor that had gone around and even made the little dislike that we have for me quite clear, I did not have and I confess to VE that after I was so touched I wanted to say a few words to the Raine but she is so full of trifles that it is impossible to talk to her about it VE set that Fontainebelleau and Paris are different and that my nor can be without so rancontrer set to her to judge who must remain or not remain more justly of Frontenac or of me" She is however happy of Mazarin's friendship which she thinks she deserves by her conduct.
