FLAUBERT Gustave [Rouen, 1821 - Croisset, 1880], French writ - Lot 27
FLAUBERT Gustave [Rouen, 1821 - Croisset, 1880], French writer. Autograph letter signed "Aulus," addressed to Edmond Laporte. [September 11] 1877; 2 1/2 pages in-8°, stamp of the Edmond Laporte collection at the bottom of the first page. Letter making modifications to the published one. "I send Guy his portrait. What a wonder! but who is this man? When you go to Rouen, buy two or three more for me, I will put my signature underneath and send it as a souvenir to different people. Now, my good man, let's talk about serious things. I shall be in Croisset on Monday at about 4 o'clock. Would you like to come for dinner & bed? We will leave the next morning, unless I am obliged to delay my departure for twenty-four hours, given the question of the laundry, and perhaps because Caro will return that very day? Nothing is decided yet on this subject. In any case, on Wednesday morning, the 19th, at the latest, we'll head for Séez. Have you worked out the route? I will get a good map of Calvados. I am writing to Pennetier to find out how long the exhibition in Le Havre will be open. I bought us two travel sticks, so don't bring a cane. Ah! my poor old man, what a pleasure I promise myself from this little trip! I warn you that I will make it last as long as possible. I am in no hurry to do so, but I must absorb things slowly so that the digestion is good. I too attended Father Thiers' funeral. They gripped me strongly. Father Baudry wants us to "guillotine Lizot" (sic). Here is where the moderate people are. And shit for Mac Mahon. A word in reply so that I know what time I will see my Asian. Have you finished the work on the notes on Agriculture and Medicine? If so, bring the paperwork. In the last ten days your giant has drawn 18 books, not counting the frills! He sends his love. All yours. Aulus."
