Paris, Sébastien Cramoisy, 1642. folio, (22) ff, 354 pp, (1) f., 9 full-page engraved plates, important oil stains affecting the lower margin of the whole work, some wetness, renewed endpapers, contemporary marbled calf, double framed with small gilt laces à la Du Seuil, spine ribbed and decorated, corners and headpieces restored. LELONG II, 26994. First edition. Religious of the Trinitarian order, he was involved in the liberation of captives in Algiers before being appointed Minister at the royal convent of Fontainebleau at the time of the publication of his book. The author describes the castle of Fontainebleau, insisting on the fountains, works of the best architects, and the gardens they adorn. He gives a very extensive description of the paintings and objets d'art, making it a reference work. Lelong pointed out that many of them had already left the castle. A large part of the book is devoted to the town of Fontainebleau and the surrounding forests, and to the hunts that took place there. The iconography was engraved by Abraham Bosse and Michel Lasne after drawings by the brothers Thomas and Alexandre Francine. They represent a cavalier view of the castle and its eight fountains.
