David, 20, 36, 14, 13 pp. (1) ff., brown calf marbled on the shoulder, double gilt thread framing on the plates, fleurons in the center and corners, spine with decorated nerves, figure (double phi) of Superintendent FOUQUET repeated on the plates and spine, restorations on the spines, headdresses and flesh, paper sometimes yellowed. (10) ff. dont le front. grav. par Jacques Picart, 72 pp. - The three Dorotées or the Jodelet souffleté comedy. Paris, Toussainct Quinet, 1647. (2) ff., 128 pp., pp. 129 to 134: various poems including those dedicated to the queen. First edition of the second part of the Burlesque Works. -- Le Jodelet ou le Me Valet. Comedy. Paris, Toussainct Quinet, 1645. (6) ff. whose front. engraved by Jacques Picart, 143 pp. First edition. -- The two Bourbon legends of 1641 & 1642 follow. (Paris, Toussainct Quinet, 1645). (1) f., pag. 121 to 164. Interspersed part extracted from the Recueil de quelques œuvres burlesques, ed. of 1645. (Rel. at the head:) Continuation of the Burlesque Works of Mr Scaron. Paris, Toussainct Quinet, 1644. 62 pp. First edition of the continuation of the first part of the Burlesque Works. It misses pages 63 to 75 containing the privilege and the Epistle to Monsignor the Chancellor (Pierre Séguier). It is possible that this lacuna is intentional. Fouquet, steward of justice, police and finance in Grenoble in 1644 was dismissed by Mazarin, on the initiative of Chancellor Séguier. The latter would later instruct the trial of the superintendent. Scarron was one of a host of artists encouraged by the minister. Ex-libris Gabriel Hanotaux, Edmé Hermitte, J. C. Courbin.
