November 20, 1896; 2 pages in-8, in French on paper with the watermark "Eduard Sacher Wien". "You will have to have a very bad opinion of me because I was unable to arrive due to various circumstances beyond my control during the few days I spent in Vienna to come and visit you, and I come to ask you not to judge me on that basis. I hope it is not too much to ask for your indulgence to claim for me the privilege of being considered an old friend. For my part, I will be very happy and you will be very kind as always to assure me by a little word that you are not angry with me", etc., and so on.
