JACOB Max [Quimper, 1876 - Drancy, 1944], French poet. - Lot 87
JACOB Max [Quimper, 1876 - Drancy, 1944], French poet. Set of 2 signed autograph letters and a signed autograph card, addressed to Robert Beckers (advertising agent of the firm Denoël & Steele). - Quimper, 1922, 1 page in-12 oblong: "Dear friends, thank you, the newspapers tell the truth but the health is good and without fever. In two months we will see you in Paris or elsewhere. A thousand friendships. Max Jacob. » - Quimper, undated; 2 pages in-4°: "What happiness a word from you, dear Robert. Yes ! the future smiles a little bit I hope; a contract for two years with Georges Petit... not so brilliant but it is a security and they triple the prices. For the moment crutching with an almost paralyzed hand: I'm afraid of gambling but I hope to be ready to face the monster in October. I'd like you to go and see Colle, and explain your situation to him. Maybe he could take you to Mrs. Cutoli's or put you somewhere else. What does Maurice Sachs do for you? If I knew someone who could get you to Chanel...... by Cocteau maybe. [...] I didn't give a lecture from my bed - let me tell you... I'll give you thought he was a stockbroker at Les Halles and that was good. [...] It seems that Denoël is sunk on the square! Dishonesty doesn't bring good luck". - Quimper, 18...; 1 page in-4°: "I am still lying and in this plaster. I often think of you with tenderness and I beg you to express my sympathy to your wife. I read. I write a little, I do not suffer but my leg is not glued back together. No! I did not receive any money from Denoël although he wrote me a friendly letter. However, he knows that I haven't worked for three months and that I'm going to have to pay huge fees since the insurance is silent". A photograph of an autographed photograph of Max Jacob in 1929 (7 x 5 cm) is attached.
