Latin David and Francois's palms. Paris, J. Mettayer and P. L'Huillier, 1595. In-8, title-front, (7) ob, 375 pp., (9) ob, one figure, out of right-hand side, e.g., set, angular lack on last page with loss of qs. letters, qs. ob, slightly detached, stamps, brown calf of the 17th c., spine with nerves decorated, without headdresses, small lacks on the back, qs. blunt corners.
DELAVEAU 2973. Vulgate and French translation by Renaud de
Beaune who signs the dedication: R. Patriarch Archevesque de Bourges.
With biblical hymns. Title-frontispiece and figure engraved by Léonard Gaultier. The figure after the preface is an allegory. We see Henry IV, perfectly resembling, represented in the costume of the prophet David on his knees, the scepter and harp at his feet, imploring the protection of the god of armies to enter the city of Paris, which we see on the side. This very curious and little known portrait (catalogue Bibliothèque de Victor Luzarche) is not cited by Weigert (French Fonds).
