ARBOUR 14554. LEVER 391. First edition. Adventure novel inspired in part by Amadis and romances of chivalry. It sometimes makes use of the marvelous: ''In du Verdier's Sibile de Perse, the Sibile leads a character from the island of Axent (?) to the Sainte-Baume, by a path that passes under the seas and continents. The two travelers see, in this journey, the single source from which all rivers flow.''(Magendie, p. 38). - ''The shield of Spheramond of Greece had the virtue of rendering invisible he who wore it upside down.''
