Paris, Jean Rabel, 1586. TCH III, 13. First edition. Portrait of Queen Louise de Lorraine, wife of Henri III, to whom the work is dedicated. The Latin verses by Dorat, "poet and interpreter to the King", are accompanied by a translation by Claude Binet (1553-1600), friend and executor of Ronsard's will. Like the Sibyls who foretold the coming of the Messiah, the work is intended as a prophetic announcement of the arrival of an heir to the throne of France. Engraved figures by Jean Rabel, painter to the king. Ex-libris ms. Pellissier de Feligonde.
