Iules troisiesme, l'an 1551. & 1552. et souz nostre Sainct Pere Pius quatriesme, 1562. & 1563. Translated from Latin into French, by Gentian Hervet d'Orléans, Canon of Rheims. Printed in Reims and sold in Paris, by Nicolas Chesneau, 1564. In-8, (4) ff, 236 ff, pet. angul. miss. without damage to text, qqs. light spotting, stamp on title, qqs. old notes and underlining, contemporary soft vellum. First French edition of the decrees of the Council of Trent, in which Gentian Hervet (1499-1584) took part alongside Cardinal de Lorraine. He has appended a description of the city of Trent and a list of all participants with their titles and dignities. Although linked to Etienne Dolet in his Lyonnais period, he was an ardent propagandist against the Reformation, and from 1562 resided in Reims. He was approached by the Cardinal of Lorraine to take up a post at his University, which was designed to combat the new doctrines.
