First edition. He had published a translation of Machiavelli's Prince in 1683. Tacitus was considered the Florentine model. It was in the same spirit that he annotated the Annales sombres de l'Histoire Romaine left by Tacitus. The notes take up three-quarters of the text, and are divided into political reflections and historical notes.
