Greenery with dog and swan and parrot - Lot 264
Greenery with dog and swan and parrot
Tapestry from the Manufacture Royale d'Aubusson
Second half of the 18th century
Woven in wool and silk
H.2,95 x W. 3,55 m
This large, fine tapestry depicts a hunting scene. The center of the composition features a bird, wings outstretched, being attacked by a dog. A circular movement - created by a continuous line between the outstretched wings, the flowers and the parrot - guides the eye towards the palatial architecture in the background. The frightened expression of the two birds contrasts with the overall harmony of the composition's curves and counter-curves, and the sense of serenity that emanates from it. Note the naturalism of the plumage, flowers and cabbage leaves. Imitation gilded frame border with stylized palmettes, lattice work and fleurons.
The tapestry retains its bright colors and original border.
It is in good condition, with some wear.
It is reduced in height.
