Les amours des bergers, France, circa 1760 Folded fan, the double paper sheet painted with couples of shepherds and shepherdesses exchanging crowns and bunches of flowers, among loves, dogs, symbols of fidelity, and other shepherds. The reverse is illustrated with a couple in a country landscape. The fan is closed, and the original border features a lattice pattern. Mounted in reperced, carved, engraved, burgled, foil-lined and gilded ivory (elephantidae spp), with Chinese-themed decoration. The reverse features painted decoration on a blue background.
