"L'Espérance renaît, Châtelaine si belle", circa 1880 Folded fan, the double sheet in ochre silk painted with four loves holding phylacteries on which are written verses addressed to a young woman: "The charming prestige of your young years/ Has suddenly transformed my after destinies/ Memory of combat or bitter pain/ Hope reborn chatelaine so beautiful/ To erase the affront that the virgin made me". The reverse features three views of castles. Mounted in undecorated burgau mother-of-pearl. Gilded metal clasp. H.t. 27.5 cm - H.f. 13.9 cm (stains, wear, missing number on rear plume)
