Effet Moiré, France, circa 1860-1870 Broken bone fan, finely re-pierced mechanically using a process invented by an Oise craftsman named Baude. The finesse of the repercing imitates work on ivory, and produces moiré effects inspired by silk. Height 22 cm (good condition, reversed strands)
