La Constitution des amours, France, circa 1790 Folded fan, the double sheet in engraved paper of a couple presenting themselves before the office of amours. On either side, twenty labels echo the twenty articles of the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen. Article 8 reads: "The law between two lovers/is only their will/constant and reciprocal/Tyranny begins where/one of the two wants (sic)/to become the master of/the other". Mute reverse. Wooden frame. H.t. 27 cm-H.f. 14 cm (significant leaf wear, restorations)
