The early 1960s marked an important
in Hans Hartung's work.
Whereas he had been concentrating on works on paper, from
from 19161, he redeveloped his work on canvas
canvas - particularly in large format - with new techniques
techniques that would become his hallmark:
on the one hand, aerosol, which creates halos, and
halo effects, on the one hand, and scratching, which translates
the nervousness and sureness of his gesture, while at the same time
contrast with the background. At
a major exhibition at the Galerie de France in
October 1962, these new works were revealed
to the public and boosted his critical and commercial
and commercial recognition.
These two elements are clearly
elements in T1962-H44. They make
make T1962-H44 emblematic of a key period
period for Hans Hartung.
