FAIVRE-ABEL jules [Lyon, 1867 - Nice, 1945], French painter and caricaturist. Approximately 100 autographed, handwritten or partly printed pieces, 1904-1924. Interesting file concerning the reproduction of his painting, L'Auscultation. ─ Contracts of association between Abel Faivre, the photographer Jacques Boyer, Hector Brame and the banker Adrien Caro, for the exploitation, production and distribution of L'Auscultation, by 3 copies of a contract drawn up in May 1904, one of which was signed by Brame only and one by Brame only and one signed by Faivre, Boyer and Brame. - 3 copies of a second established on April 1, 1905, one signed by Boyer only, the second by Faivre and Brame and the third by Boyer, Brame and Faivre. With notes and handwritten drafts, in the hand of hand of Boyer or Brame, concerning the conditions of this association and 10 letters or receipts from Boyer for expenses incurred. ─ 10 autographed bills signed from Faivre to Hector Brame, 36 receipts for royalties signed by him, 1903-1912, and handwritten summary of accounts between Faivre and Brame, between June 1901 and January 1906. ─ 40 letters, supplier invoices, and purchase orders, 1904-1913, concerning reproductions of Faivre's work, including 11 purchase orders for L'Auscultation from from the art bookseller Dietrich & Cie of Brussels. In addition to this painting L'Auscultation (1898) representing a half-naked young woman, examined by a somewhat concupiscent old doctor, Abel Faivre executed numerous caricatures on the same subject caricatures on the same subject, several of which were collected in a special issue of L'Assiette au Beurre, n° 51, in March 1902 dedicated to doctors.
