─ Paris April 28, 1871: letter from a business agent of Brame, who is a refugee in
Brussels, about a transaction concerning a painting by Courbet, La Vague: "I have just
I have just seen Mr. Courbet, I gave him 1000 francs from you, he seemed satisfied but he says that he is
but he says that he has been involved in a lot of expenses since he became a member of the Commune. And he would have liked
more. I told him that I would talk to you about it. As for the Wave, he says that he doesn't want to make any more

─ June 10, 1899: receipt of a sum of 8,000 frs for Renoir's "Le Printemps," sold by its
owner to Brame.
